About the Galvin Brothers
The Galvin brothers have over 75 years’ experience between them, with the majority of these spent in London. Chris and Jeff welcome thousands of customers to their restaurants each month and enjoy the privilege of being the first British brothers to hold a Michelin star each in different properties.
Chris teamed up with his brother Jeff in 2005 to open their first solo venture, the eponymous Galvin Bistrot de Luxe in Baker Street, which became an overnight success and achieved many accolades including Best French Restaurant 2 years running and Best Wine List in 2009.
In May 2006, Chris and Jeff launched Galvin at Windows, on the 28th floor of the London Hilton on Park Lane, with André Garrett (ex-Orrery) as their Head Chef. In 2010, Galvin at Windows gained its first Michelin star.
In November 2009, Chris and Jeff opened their first restaurant in the City, La Chapelle, once again to much critical acclaim, achieving several top awards including Tatler Restaurant of the Year and AA London Restaurant of the Year. Galvin La Chapelle gained a Michelin star in the 2011 Red Guide and has retained it ever since.
In 2014, the Essex-born brothers bought their first pub, The Green Man, in the Essex countryside near Chelmsford. The pub opened in November 2016 following an extensive renovation of the 700-year old building, yet keeping its original features and its aim of being a hub in the local community. The Green Man was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2018 and has retained it ever since, also winning the prestigious Catey Award for Best Pub & Bar in 2019 and best Pub & Bar in all of Essex in 2023 with the Pub & Bar awards.
2010 saw the start of Galvin Chance, the brothers’ own charity that brings troubled youngsters off the street and into the hospitality industry, providing them with a qualification and a long-term career.
In 2011, Chris and Jeff published Galvin: A Cookbook de Luxe with Absolute Press.
In 2013, Jeff won the prestigious Master of Culinary Arts (MCA). Held every 4 years, the MCA is the UK hospitality industry’s most prestigious award.
In October 2020, Chris and Jeff opened Galvin Bistrot & Bar on Spital Square, next door to their Michelin-starred restaurant, Galvin La Chapelle. The East London Bistrot is inspired by the bar à vins in Paris and continues the ethos of an ingredient-led, seasonal menu using the best quality produce.
2021 saw the arrival of Galvin Bar & Grill located in the opulent dining room of Kimpton Fitzroy London. Galvin Bar & Grill is the Galvin brothers’ take on the modern British grill. While rooted in British cooking, the menu is not wedded to traditional dishes and embodies how the Galvins would like to see Britain today: ethical, generous and open.
