Welcome to THOMPSON St Albans

One of many restaurants in St Albans of fine calibre, we THOMPSON St Albans are delighted to have been awarded the St Albans Chamber of Commerce Best Restaurant Award for 2015/16. St Albans food choices and St Albans restaurants offer a wide variety of culinary experience.

THOMPSON St Albans offers affordable luxury in a 2 AA Rosette, relaxed, fine dining environment. Our menus are ever changing, dictated by the seasons; Phil Thompson combines his classic training, personal style and flavour combinations with his own modern twist. Any event can be hosted in the 28-seater conservatory or on the terrace, for lunch in the sun, a quaint Victorian-style courtyard with trailing ivy, honeysuckle, shrubs and flowers. Our courtyard terrace seats a further 20 guests and is offered exclusively when the conservatory is booked. We welcome those diners who seek St Albans restaurants offering al fresco dining. Our service is attentive but not intrusive, our staff impeccably mannered and our atmosphere relaxed, all of which contribute to an outstanding culinary experience, so that our guests leave feeling pampered and special.

As one of the restaurants in St Albans we are proud to have raised over £10,000 for Rennie Grove Hospice and additional funds for a number of other charities such as the Willow foundation and St Cuthbert’s Hospice by hosting celebrity chef nights with Tom Kerridge, Daniel Clifford and Phil Howard, all of which offered a real treat for all St Albans food lovers (foodies).

The St Albans food festival held annually end of September / early October, allows many of the restaurants in St Albans to showcase themselves with a wide variety of food stalls and cooking demonstrations. Phil Thompson and his team very much enjoy participating in this culinary festival. It is wonderful to see the St Albans food industry become a community between neighbouring St Albans restaurants, staff / owners, guests / customers and suppliers. St Albans food delights do not stop there… with a farmer’s market every second Sunday of the month, a French market that visits St Albans twice a year in Spring and Autumn and our wonderful street market that dates back to (or ‘originated in’) the 9th century.
