Celebrate Mother’s Day in St Albans

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, but there’s lots of time left to show your mum just how much you care. From spas to Sunday lunches, find out what’s going on in and around St Albans this Mother’s Day.

How Mother’s Day originated

In the UK, Mother’s Day is more properly known as Mothering Sunday. This is an event that has its origins in the Christian Church – which is why it always falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent, and this year is Sunday 31st March. It started off as a time for people to go home and worship in their ‘mother’ church, but over the years it has evolved into a celebration of mums themselves. Aptly in our eyes, other names for the original Mother’s Day included Refreshment Sunday and Pudding Pie Sunday!

Why mums deserve a special day

How many of us take our mums for granted? We might not have appreciated all those years of hard work at the time, but Mother’s Day gives us the chance to repay our mums for all they’ve done for us. Maybe the special person in your life is a step-mum, a grandma, granny or a single dad. Or perhaps you’re helping little ones celebrate Mother’s Day for their mum. Whoever you have to thank on Mother’s Day, it’s the perfect opportunity to show the special person in your life just how important they are.
